Adult Scoliosis

Patient History: 60-year-old woman with known history of idiopathic scoliosis which did not require treatment as an adolescent. She was having significant back pain and leg pain and weakness. After failure of conservative therapy, she elected for surgical scoliosis correction and stabilization. Her scoliosis measured 70 degrees for the thoracic curve and 50 degrees for the lumbar curve.

Surgery: Patient underwent T3–pelvis scoliosis correction and fusion with 5 chevron-shaped bone cuts (Ponte osteotomies) and two interspace spacers(TLIFs).

Outcome: The patient did well with surgery. There were no hospital complications. She is now 19 months status post surgery. She has minimal complaints of muscle aches between her shoulder blades. She is happy with results of surgery.
